Frequently Asked Questions
- Is The Tutor Lab a registered tutor centre?
Yes, we are registered with IMPAQ Education and Cambrilearn as a tutor centre. This enables us to provide tutorial services to students who enrol with IMPAQ or Cambrilearn as home-schoolers. As such, we have to abide by legislation governing provision of tutorial services to home-schoolers. - What happens if I am registered at another home-schooling tutor centre currently but want to join Tutor Lab?
There is some documentation to complete – we will send this to you and assist with the process. - Can I move my child/ children to a mainstream school from Tutor Lab and how does this work?
Since we follow the IMPAQ and Cambrilearn curricula which is in line with all governmental stipulations and legislation, the tutoring your child receives is on the same level as government and private schools. Older students write examinations which are set by SACAI or Cambrilearn and cover all learning material required. Should you need to move your child, we will assist with all relevant documentation and copies of student records and other administration needed. - What additional support can my child receive?
As we are in a family-oriented therapy centre, there are a number of professionals who can assist with various issues. Other services we can offer, some at a reduced rate to parents/ caregivers, are the following: full psycho-educational assessments, various homeopathic-related treatments, remedial therapy, extra lessons, play therapy, individual psychotherapy, study skills training, etc. - Does my child need to be registered as a home-schooler and what is the process?
Yes, your child needs to be registered with the GDE as a home-schooler first before you can consider using any additional support, such as the services of tutors to assist with parts of the curriculum. To do this, contact the Gauteng Department of Education directly for registration documents and information. You are welcome to contact us directly for additional information regarding registration processes as well as legal implications of home-schooling. - Do I need to teach my child part of the curriculum?
Yes, legal requirements state that parents need to teach their own child(ren) at home and enlist the specific services of a tutor for the learning areas (subjects) that they are unable to teach.
